Michael Brandon


Biographical Information

He was born on April 20, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. U.S.A.
Real name: Michael Feldman.

Born into a working-class family, his father was a car mechanic and he had several & different jobs before he started acting.

After his studies in Secundary School, he started to work in a bakery to earn some money and he used to write little poems about death - a really concern subject for him -.

He met a model named Rita, who gave him a lot of addresses of interpretation schools.

He studied in the Actor´s Studio & American Academy of Dramatic Art.

Later, he fell ill of spine. Because of this, he was confined to bed several months. Meanwhile, he read "Hamlet", his first role for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

He was married to Lindsay Wagner from 1976 to 1979. They were involved in an unfortunate car accident in 1976, in which he received several cuts, one of them on his right eyebrow. They got divorced in 1979.

His first professional work came on the New York stage where he co-starred with Al Pacino in "Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?". This was followed by a stage performance at the prestigious Long Wharf Theatre, co-starring with Stockard Channing in "The Lady and The Clarinet".

Michael's early film credits include (among others) "Love and Others Strangers"  (1970) with Diane Keaton, "The Third Girl from the Left" (1973) with Kim Novak, "James Dean" (1976), "Red Alert" (1977), "F.M." (1978), "Promises in the Dark" (1979) & "A change of Seasons" (1980).

Michael's most important break on TV was the role of Lieutenant James Dempsey in the British TV Series "Dempsey & Makepeace" (1984-1986) which he co-starred with Glynis Barber.

Michael Brandon & Glynis Barber got married on November 18, 1989 in London after several years of relationship.

In 1990, they moved to Los Angeles, USA, where their son Alexander was born on November 21, 1992. They moved back to London in 1996.

He likes to go skiing, scuba dive, jogging & gardening. 

He's writing his first book and also have written scripts for film industry.

"Jerry Springer - The Opera"

- His most recent theatre play -
Michael was recently acting in the theatre play "Jerry Springer - The Opera".

A collaboration between Avalon, Allan McKeown and the National Theatre in association with BAC.

Director: Stewart Lee  Set Designer: Julian Crouch

Music: Richard Thomas   Books& Lyrics: Stewart Lee & Richard Thomas

Plot: Witness triumph, tragedy and trailer trash as high art meets low in the new genre-breaking opera.
Beginning life at Battersea Arts Centre, the concert version was the hit of the Edinburgh Festival 2002 and now the fully staged production becomes the NT's first ever new opera.

It is based on America's most lurid talk show and the US host who brought worldwide television audiences programmes entitled 'Pregnant by a Transsexual', 'Here Comes the Hookers' and 'I Refuse to Wear Clothes.'

Michael acted as Jerry Springer until July 10 th, 2004. He was then replaced by David Soul (a long time friend & associate of Michael. He was delighted to take over Michael's prestigious run as Jerry Springer).

It's announced that "Jerry Springer - The Opera" will embark on a UK Tour in the autumn 2005.

The play has won the accolade of Best Musical in The Critics Circle Awards (2003), Evening Standard Awards (2003), What's on Stage Awards (2004) & Olivier Awards (2004).
